Problem displaying Chinese and Korean fonts in AIX 5.3.

*Chinese and Korean are displayed correctly in AIX 5.1 after installing the following font packs:

This problem occurs due to different front request method used in AIX 5.1 and AIX 5.3. Following examples show how font requests are different in these systems:

- AIX 5.1 : -dt-interface system-medium-r-normal-m-18-130-100-100-p-173-ucs2.cjk_china-0
- AIX 5.3 : -dt-interface system-medium-r-normal-s-16-116-100-100-p-153-ucs2.cjk_china-0[0x0000_0x007f]

To resolve this issue, comment out the subset line in /usr/lpp/X11/lib/X11/locale/GBK/XLC_LOCALE or disabled the Automatic Font substitute feature in Xmanager. To disable it:

  1. Open Xconfig and double click on the Default profile (or the appropriate Xconfig profile that is assigned to the Xmanager session)
  2. Click on the Font tab
  3. Clear the Automatic font substitution option
