Are you trying to connect to the remote Xvfb using VNC and Xshell on Windows?

Here is the guide for Linux configuration:
http://gpio.kaltpost.de/?page_id=84

For tunneling, go to SSH > Tunneling and create a new Outgoing rule like this:

Type: Outbound
Source host: localhost
Listening port: 5900

Destination port: localhost
Destination port: 5900 (default port where vnc server is running on the host)

Then, on Windows VNC client, connect to localhost:5900

Re: Xshell and VNC + Xvfb how to

You need to install VNC server on the remote host and run it before you can connect to the host via vnc client. Please follow the instruction I attached earlier for detail.

You cannot connect to a system running xvfb alone via vnc client.

I have tried configuring our system with the guide I attached and I can confirm that it works with tunneling.
