Is it Possible to connect to cygwin via xshell (like puttycyg)?

I was just wondering if anyone knew or figured out if it was possible to connect to cygwin via xshell similar to puttycyg.

For those who have never tried it, it's a way to get a real shell for cygwin, instead of having to use cmd.exe.

I know you could obviously use the ssh server that comes with cygwin, but that's sort of a hack over tcp, while puttycyg connects directly to cygwin.

Thanks!

Re: Is it Possible to connect to cygwin via xshell (like puttycyg)?

Xshell does not support direct accessing Cygwin such as Puttycyg. However, this feature has been brought up a number of times before and we will decide on adding the feature after the Xshell 4 official release (which will happen in just a few weeks from now).

Thank you for your patience and the feature request.

Hi there,

I'm looking for this feature as well.
Do we have any fresh news regarding this feature?

I really hope that it will be delivered somehow in future :-)

Thank you a lot in advance,

We received this feature request before and it has been added to our queue. I can't guarantee when this feature will be implemented but will make sure I update this post when this feature gets implemented.

Copied from some Link.

1. Install cygwin, and install sshd. (With openssh-related are elected ^^)
2. Open the cygwin console: Enter ssh-host-config, all the way yes (if vista or win7, need to right click -> Run as administrator cygwin).
Part of the screen:

$ Ssh-host-config
Overwrite existing / etc / ssh_config file? (Yes / no) yes
Generating / etc / ssh_config file
Overwrite existing / etc / sshd_config file? (Yes / no) yes
Privilege separation is set to yes by default since OpenSSH 3.3.
However, this requires a non-privileged account called 'sshd'.
For more info on privilege separation read /usr/share/doc/openssh/README.privsep.

Should privilege separation be used? (Yes / no) yes
Generating / etc / sshd_config file

Host configuration finished. Have fun!
3. Tip the installation was successful. Cygwin console input net start sshd, ssh service started.
$ Net start sshd
CYGWIN sshd service is starting.
CYGWIN sshd service has started successfully.
4. Modify the default Administrator password

$ Passwd Administrator

5. Use XShell connection localshot, user name and password for the Administrator password
