Missing Umlauts when copy'n paste from Windows to X or vice versa

Hi,

we're using the latest X-Manager 3.0 build on Win 7 and my customers having trouble to copy and paste text which containts german umlauts as ÄÖÜ from windows to X.
For example "abcdeäöüxyz" becomes "abcdexyz".

With X-Manager 2.0 on Win XP this wasn't a problem at all.

Program Ver. : Xmanager 3.0
Connect Method : XDMCP connection

This problem may occur when

1. The font is missing in Xmanager. What is the name and version of the X application you are experiencing the problem (i.e. xterm, dtterm and etc.)
2. Language setting on the remote system is not setup correctly. Please make sure the LANG setting on the remote machine is set to German.

If the problem persists, please send us the following information:

1. Xmanager log. How to retrieve the log file:Xmanager Faq : Where can I find my Xmanager log files
2. Screenshot of the problem.
3. Name and version of the X application the customer is having the problem with.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Well i don't think it's a font-problem because i'm able to enter umlauts on the keyboard and they are shown correctly. And as mentioned it works with Xmanager 2.0 on WinXP (same Server, same Application).

Bu i've doublechecked the LANG variable. It's set correctly.

Please see attachment 1 for logile and attachment 2 for screenshot.

The application is a third party app called ADIS. It's programmed with motif-widgets.

Re: Missing Umlauts when copy'n paste from Windows to X or vice versa

We are trying to duplicate this problem. Here is our settings:

Windows settings:
- Version: Windows 7 English Enterprise
- Input: German input
- Xmanager version: Xmanager 3.0 Standard

Remote host settings:
- Version: Centos 5
- Desktop environment: Gnome
- Language settings: German (de_DE.UTF-8)

- X application used to test this issue: xterm, gedit, vi

Could you send us your system settings as well as any information that may help us duplicate this problem?

Also, does this problem occur on the specific application (ADIS) or across all system such as xterm and gedit as well?

Well, this is our setup:

Windows:
- Version: Win 7 Enterprise
- Input: German
- Xmanager Version 3.0 Standard

Host:
- Version HP-UX 11.11
- Desktop environment: CDE
- Language settings: German (german.iso88591 or de_DE.iso88591)
- X application used to test this issue:
- vi: enter umlaut : Ok, paste: not ok
- xterm: enter umlaut: not ok "^¤" is displayed while typing.
But echo "^¤" gives ä!
paste: not ok (copying "aäböcü" shows a^¤b^¶c^¼)
it looks a bit like an UTF problem.

any motif app shows the same behaviour: input by keyboard is ok, paste does not work.

This problem was fixed in the latest Xmanager release (Xmanager 4.0 build 0109). Please try upgrading Xmanager.

To upgrade Xmanager, open Xbrowser and select Check for Updates under the Help menu.
