Cannot connect to CentOs 5.3 desktop via SSH

I'd like to connect to CentOS desktop (server) via my Windows Machine. I've configured CentOS to be accessed via ssh public keys. I created a pair in xbrowser (rsa key, 1024 bit, exported it into id_rsa.pub and inserted its content in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server. I also configured the sshd_config as instructed.

Xmanager recognizes the key but I got an error message - blob rejected by server or sth. I understand that the problem is in server (authorized key) settings.

Howevwer, I can access the server in ssh terminal mode by putty, so I assume ssh is correctly configured on the server. Obviously the public keys cannot be cross checked for some reason.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Mitja

Program Ver. : Xmanager 3.0
Connection Method : Xstart connection

Try this page:

http://andremolnar.com/how_to_set_up_ssh_keys_with_putty_and_not_get_server_refused_our_key

Basically when this happens, there are few things you need to check.

1. Permission on the .ssh folder should be 700.
2. Permission on the authorized_keys file should be 600
3. Check the owner and group for .ssh and authorized_keys are and make sure it's you.

Thanks Brian, I've checked the link and got some sound waypoints what to do next. Unfortunately I can't try it right now.

I set the chmod like it is instructed already. I am not sure about how to check the ownership.

Can putty show linux GUI, or just a console?

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Re: Cannot connect to CentOs 5.3 desktop via SSH

I have tried all that was suggested but it still doesn't work via public key. Even if I create keys on linux server the "server rejects public blob". All chmods are OK, everything seems to be by the book. Is it possible that some services are not running on the server because I also tried the nx client and it was the same story.

Please send us the following information for a review:

1. Everything on the Xrcmd: reply message dialog box.
2. SSHd log file '/var/log/sshd.log'
3. /etc/ssh/sshd_config file

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
