How to keep a gui-program running after I exit Xmanager?

I have a Linux server with no monitor. With Xmanager, I could now use my notebook (Windows XP) to access the server. But I could not keep the gui based program running after I exit Xmanager. For instance I start a gui based ftp client, and wish to shutdown my notebook but to keep on downloading files. But if I exit Xmanager, the ftp client crashes.

You can not reconnect to a session after the secession has been disconnected. This is default behavior of all X servers.

If you want to let programs run after closing the session, you might find VNC useful.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
