Strange colors with some applications

Hi,

I'm using Xmanager 2.0 with Suse 10.0. Everything works fine except some strange colors with a few applications like Acrobat Reader, Firefox, Thunderbird and others.
The problem is that areas and text which should be grey are yellow or pink or something else. And there is no problem when I login directly to the machine.
I already figured that it could be related to No. 13 in the FAQ and tried most possiblities from which I can choose but it's still the same.

Thanks for your help in advance.
bye,
Haqim

Re: Strange colors with some applications

I had the same problem. My problem disappeared after turning off the antialiasing option in Suse.

Re: Strange colors with some applications

I am getting the exact same thing - mostly with Firefox as well.

I tried turning off anti-aliasing but it did not seem to help. I am using Slackware with KDE.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks.

Re: Re: Strange colors with some applications

This problem occurs when the Use Sub-pixel hinting option is used. Please clear this option and try again. To do this, follow the instruction below:

1. In Slackware desktop, click KDE menu icon, Settings, and then Control Center.
2. In Control Center, click Appearance & Themes, and then Fonts.
3. In the Anti-Aliasing area, select Use anti-aliasing for fonts.
4. Clear Use Sub-pixel hinting.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Re: Re: Re: Strange colors with some applications

Hi,

In the meantime I found a work-around for at least firefox and thunderbird. The problem with those programs was solved after I used another color theme for them. Unfortunately the problem still exists with programs where I cannot change the theme :(

The "Sub-pixel hinting" option didn't help, the antialiasing for fonts is deactivated.

thx and bye

Thank you for your feedback.

We are currently building a test machine. Please give a few days to test your problem. We will get back to you as soon as we find a solution.

Meanwhile, please send us the screenshot of the problem that shows both a working (Firefox) and problematic application.

hi again,

ok I made a few screenshots:

firefox_bad.png: the wrong coloured firefox
via Xmanager
firefox_good.png: the correct coloured firefox
via vnc
firefox_good2.png: correct firefox via Xmanager
but non-default firefox theme

acroread_bad.png: acroread with wrong colours
via
acroread_good.png: correct acroread via vnc

generally it seems like most gnome/gtk based applications show that problem but no KDE ones.

We have tested this problem on other X Servers and the same problem has occurred. There seems to be a compatibility issue with panel control. We apologize for the delay. We will post a solution in the near future.
