configure keypad on us 101 keyboard

configure keypad on us 101 keyboard

 
With numlock on, keys 0-9 do nothing.
With numlock off, keys function correctly as arrow keys.

What do i need to change to enable the numeric keys?

If you are experiencing the problem with VI editor, please read on. Otherwise, please send us the information listed at the end of this posting.

VI editor may not recognize the key pad values in certain terminal types. Try changing the terminal type to ANSI or VT220. To change the terminal type, use the following command:
$ export TERM=ansi or
$ setenv TERM ansi

If your problem persists, please send us the following information:
  1. Vendor/Version of the remote host
  2. Name of the application
  3. Procedure for duplicating your problem
