hi,
I'm an Xmanager2.0 customer.
I'm having problems when trying to connect to a host trough VPN while it is possible to do the thing without it.
my config is at follows :
1- Xmanager2.0 on PC1 : this PC has two IP adresses ( one of them is ppp and is for connecting to the VPN gateway )
2- VPN gateway ( witch is transparent to the Xmanager system ports 177,6000~6010,...)
3- the target host

Attached File is my Xmanager .log file

need help

Re: XDMCP Connection to a host trough VPN

Please read /var/dt/Xerrors on HP-UX for more detailed reasons.

The problem seems to occur because your PC and HP are in different network segments. Xmanager ports 6000 ~ 6010 may be blocked by the VPN gateway.

XDMCP Connection to a host trough VPN

hi,
the ports are opened in all gateways on the route to the host.
The Xerrors file tell me that noting significant

Is there any particular Xmanager config to work with in such an environnement?

What about state 8 error in Xmanager log file? I don't understand it!

thanks

Re: XDMCP Connection to a host trough VPN

In Xbrowser, you may double-click a remote host. Then, Xmanager window opens up and it will prompt you to select an IP address (because your PC has two IP addresses). Did you see the IP selection dialog box? You should select an IP that can be reached from the remote host.

Also, your gateway should allow incoming connections (from the remote host to your local PC). Mostly a gateway allows outgoing connections but blocks incoming connections. The error state 8 means that the dtlogin process on HP are not able to connect to Xmanager, it means that your gateway blocks Xmanager ports 6000 ~ 6010.

Re: XDMCP Connection to a host trough VPN

You have two IP addresses, 192.168.36.5 and 212.xxx.103.163.

The dtlogin on HP is trying to connect to 192.168.36.5 that is a private IP address. It should connect to 212.xxx.103.163.

This problem could be fixed if you select 212.xxx.103.163 while connecting to the remote host.

By the way, can't you see the IP selection dialog box when double-clicking in Xbrowser? I know that Xmanager 2.0 supports an IP selection dialog box for a multi-homed PC.
