xmanager not connecting even after opening all ports in firewall

Hi,

I want to connect to a xmanager server (on solaris box) from my system. There are two firewalls in between these systems. I got the full access (all ports in both directions) enabled for these two hosts.

But still i am not able to establish the connection. Attaching the xmanager.log.

Xdmcp: sent a REQUEST message
Xdmcp: received an ACCEPT message
Xdmcp: sent a MANAGE message.
Xdmcp: Timed out, state 8. Retransmissions: 0
Xdmcp: sent a MANAGE message.
Xdmcp: Timed out, state 8. Retransmissions: 1
Xdmcp: sent a MANAGE message.
Xdmcp: Timed out, state 8. Retransmissions: 2
Xdmcp: sent a MANAGE message.
Xdmcp: Timed out, state 8. Retransmissions: 3
XDM go to sleep: too many retransmissions

Please suggest me a solution

Regards,
Venky

Re: xmanager not connecting even after opening all ports in firewall

Xmanager listens TCP port 6000 and the dtlogin process on Solaris will try to connect to Xmanager.

If your PC is in a private network, the dtlogin cannot reach at your PC. To confirm this, try to run an xterm using Xstart. Once you can launch an xterm, your network has no problem for a CDE connection.

When you are in a private network, please read Xmanager FAQ #4 at:

/products/xmg_faq.html#p4

If an xterm runs successfully, check the DNS settings on Solaris. If the name server maps your IP address to an invalid hostname, a CDE connection may fail.

If the problem persists, provide us with more detailed description about your network.

Hope to solve the problem.

Hi,

Even xterm is not working.

Please note that both the server and client are in private network separated by firewall.

All the traffic is allowed between these two hosts in firewall. Also note that NAT is not in place.

Hope to see some solution for this.

Thanks,

Re: Re: Re: xmanager not connecting even after opening all ports in firewall

If your PC is in a private network, it is hard to configure the firewall for XDMCP connections.

You should follow the instructions in FAQ #4 and refer to the "Establishing Connections->Configuring firewall" section in Xmanager Help.

Also, confirm that you are using Xmanager 2.0.
