How to register type 1 fonts

How can I register a type 1 font.

I made a new directory in the fonts dir. Copied fontnames.pfa files to the directory and tried to make a fonts.dir with the programme mkfntdir. Nothing hapend after running the programme. I've copied the fonts that were in the folder Type 1 nothing hapened after running mkfntdir. I've tried to install other types of fonts, *.pcz and they worked fine.

What should I do different when I use type 1 fonts?

You should also copy fonts.scale file with *.pfa font files. The fonts.scale contains fontname information required by mkfntdir.exe. You can find it in Type1 directory of your Unix machine.

Yes that helped. Or actuly renaming fonts.scale to fonts.dir helped.
